Description

This is a planned terrace of twelve houses, numbered 12 to 30, located on the north side of North Road East in Plymouth. They were built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of stucco, with stucco detailing, and have dry slate or asbestos slate roofs concealed behind parapets featuring moulded cornices. There are stuccoed chimneys positioned over the party walls between the houses. Each house follows a double-depth plan, with a main room at the front.

The terrace is three storeys high, with attic space, and presents a two-window front to each house. The original windows are hornless sash windows, and the original doorways have overlights and panelled doors. Original stucco detailing includes rusticated quoins at the ends of the terrace, and rustication to the segmental-arched ground-floor windows. Pilastered doorcases are paired, each topped with a moulded entablature. Moulded sill strings and moulded eared architraves are present on the upper floors; those on the first floor include pulvinated friezes and moulded cornices above.

The interior was not inspected, but is likely to be of interest. The terrace is part of a notable group of buildings, and was marked on a map from 1867.
