Description

Widey Grange is a probable farmhouse that later became a small country house, likely built in the 17th century, with the front remodeled in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of stucco and has a dry slate hipped roof with projecting eaves at the front, while the rear features an irregular arrangement of roofs. There are large rendered lateral stacks at the back of the front range. The plan is mostly from the 18th century or earlier, consisting of a two-room front range and a deep service wing at the rear left, which is in two stages. There is also a wing returned at the rear right with a well house in front, along with an early 20th-century lean-to conservatory on the left.

The house has two storeys and a symmetrical three-window front with a plinth and mid-floor string. The early to mid-19th-century sash windows have glazing bars and small horns. The central doorway features a six-panel door, with the top four panes later glazed. The porch is a much-repaired distyle Doric style with unfluted columns that are partly bricked in, along with a complete Doric entablature that includes triglyphs.

Inside, notable features include a remodelled 18th-century staircase with turned balusters and a later turned newel, as well as a stone trough in the rear right-hand wing. The roof structures have not been inspected.
