Description

St Andrew's Abbey Hall and Church House Assembly Room is a church hall and assembly space built in 1895, as noted on the rainwater head. It is constructed from Plymouth limestone rubble with freestone dressings, featuring a moulded mid-floor string. The building has a steep dry slate roof with coped gable ends and an embattled parapet at the front, which includes a moulded and carved cornice, while the rear has a plain parapet. Designed in the Perpendicular Gothic style, the hall has a rectangular plan and is two storeys tall with a window arrangement of 1:6.

There are doorways at both the far left and right. The principal left-hand doorway features a moulded four-centred stilted arch with relief lettering that reads "ST ANDREW'S ABBEY HALL," and above it is a tall triple transomed and traceried three-light window. The other doorway has chamfered rubble jambs, a Tudor arch, and a Y-traceried fanlight above. The remaining windows are two-light and transomed with moulded jambs; the five ground-floor windows have Y-traceried heads, while the taller first-floor windows have traceried heads. Inside, there is a suspended ceiling on the first floor. The building holds strong group value with Prysten House, Abbey Place, and the Church of St Andrew on Catherine Street.
