Description

Downhorn Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Horn Lane in Plymstock. The front of the building is rendered, while the rest features rubble walls and slate hanging on the upper part of the left-hand gable end. The farmhouse has steep dry slate roofs, with the central part being taller and including two hipped projections at the front. There are three rubble stacks from the 17th century: two at the ends and one axial stack towards the left. The layout consists of three rooms and a through-passage plan, along with a two-storey entrance porch on the right and a stair tower on the left. An outshut extends from part of the rear. The building has two storeys and an overall six-window range.

The first floor features a late 18th-century centre-opening three-light casement with glazing bars on the right, while the rest of the windows are late 19th or 20th-century horned sashes with glazing bars, along with a 20th-century hall window. The porch has a complex-moulded basket-arched granite doorway with a niche containing a cross, and there is a planked door leading to an inner moulded oak doorway. The left-hand gable end showcases an original two-light granite mullioned window on the first floor, which contains leaded casements.

Inside, the hall features a 17th-century moulded granite fireplace and a plaster entablature with a moulded architrave, carved frieze, and moulded ceiling cornice. The interior has only been partially inspected.
