Description
Mizymead Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid 17th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of rubble with a rendered finish, featuring a plain interlocked tiled roof with crestings and a brick ridge stack, along with a pantiled lean-to on the left. The building has a 3-room plan and stands two storeys high with three windows. On the ground floor, there are two 3-light and two 2-light casements, all from the 20th century; to the right, there was formerly a door, and there is a small lean-to on the right with a single light, as well as a rubble lean-to on the left. The left return has a two-span roof, and a later block to the left includes a ground and first-floor 3-light casement with a segmental head; the lean-to has a re-set door frame that is chamfered with a pointed arch and a half-glazed door. The right return shows the gable end of the main range with a single light at the first floor (which was formerly a 2-light), while the gable end of the rear block has a 3-light casement with a segmental head on both the ground and first floors, and a lean-to on the right with a 4-light 20th-century casement. At the rear of the main range to the left, there is a heavy door with strap hinges in a moulded frame and a 2-light 20th-century casement; the rear of the rear block features a 20th-century flat-roofed glazed porch and a half-glazed inner door, with a similar door having strap hinges and a glazed panel to the right in a segmental-headed opening, along with a 3-light casement with a segmental head above. Inside, the room to the left has a framed ceiling in four bays with fine moulded beams, while the central room features a deep-chamfered beam. The rest of the interior is not accessible.
