Description
Hillside Farmhouse is a building that originated in the 16th century, with further developments in the 17th century, refacing in the 19th century, and a 20th-century extension. It may have originally been a long house, which has since been adapted to include a cross passage. The exterior is rendered with a double Roman tiled roof featuring clay crestings and brick stacks. The farmhouse is two storeys high with five windows displaying irregular fenestration, including 19th-century casements with two and three lights, and a central 19th-century plank door.
Inside, the farmhouse features end and central chimneys in wide bays. The west end includes a bread oven, while the east end has a newel stair nearby. The hall fireplace boasts a chamfered lintel and a large, ornately moulded shelf, which may have been reused from the parish church screen. The hall also features a step and an ogee moulded framed ceiling. The north bay is plain, suggesting it may have served as an internal buttery, while the outer room has stop-chamfered beams. Additionally, one partial plain cruck rises above the partition between the hall and the inner room.
