Description

A farmhouse, dating from around the middle of the 17th century, with alterations and extensions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The house is constructed of coursed stone rubble, rendered on the front, and has a clay tile roof with stone-coped gable ends. Stone stacks are located at the gable ends, with the north-east stack rendered. The original plan is L-shaped, with the main front range containing a kitchen on the left and a parlour on the right, both originally heated by fireplaces. A central front doorway opens into a passage leading to a central, unheated service room. In the 18th century, a wing was added behind the kitchen (rear left), with an outshut on its western side, and a further outshut was added to the rear of the main range in the 19th century.

The two-storey front elevation has an asymmetrical appearance with four windows. The windows are late 19th-century, three-light casements with cambered arches on the ground floor. The central doorway has a studded plank door (horizontally boarded on the inside) and wrought-iron strap hinges. The rear features a gable-ended wing on the right with an outshut on the western side, and the main roof extends over the outshut on the left.

Inside, the ceilings have chamfered beams with cyma stops. The kitchen has a large fireplace, blocked by a mid-19th century chimneypiece and cupboards. The parlour features a china cupboard with glazed doors. The doors are a mix of 18th/19th century panelled and 19th century plank designs, all with strap hinges. A stair-turret is located behind the kitchen, with a plank door. One chamber has an early 19th-century chimneypiece and cast-iron grate.
