Description

Farmhouse. Dating from the mid- to late 17th century, this is a gabled vernacular farmhouse with an L-plan and a projecting wing to the right. The exterior is rubble construction with double Roman tiled roofs and ashlar and rubble stacks. The original two-bay section to the left features 20th-century casement windows. One original window retains an ovolo moulded mullion, situated above a 20th-century door recessed under a gabled hood. The right-hand wing has two storeys and attics, with a steep stone gable and a cellar beneath the projecting section. This section contains several casement windows with ovolo moulded mullions, surrounds, and lintels, as well as a continuous string course above the ground and first floors. The rear elevation includes a projecting square stairtower to the west and a studded plank door, fitted with strap hinges that have fleur-de-lys ends and an ovolo moulded surround. Internally, the central room demonstrates chamfered beams, featuring scroll and run-out stops, and a spice cupboard with butterfly hinges. An ovolo moulded doorframe leads to the dining room, where a plank door, similarly fitted with strap hinges and fleur-de-lys ends, is also found. The kitchen features chamfered beams with scroll and bar stops and a large chamfered lintel above the fireplace. The dining room contains an ashlar fireplace with an ogee and ovolo moulded, depressed head and rebate, and scroll stops. Other features include an ovolo moulded doorframe and a plank door with strap hinges, alongside a similar door in a rear room and a newel staircase. In the wing's living room, a coarsely cut 4-centre headed ashlar fireplace is present, as are double ovolo and hollow moulded beams with converging stops, and decorative iron window catches. The roof structure incorporates an extended collar beam truss.
