Description

Sores Court is a farmhouse dating from the mid- to late 17th century, with alterations and a rainwater hopper dated 1710. The building is constructed of rubble with a slate roof, raised verges, and diagonal rubble stacks. The plan is L-shaped and represents a superior vernacular style. The house has two storeys and attics, indicated by gabled dormers. The main block comprises three bays, plus one in a projecting wing to the left. It has 3- and 4-light casement windows with square leaded lights, ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, and dripmoulds. One sash window, with exposed frame, is located in the projecting wing to the left. The central entrance has a panelled and studded door, strap hinges with open scroll ends, and an ovolo and hollow moulded doorframe. A projecting two-storey porch adds to the facade. The building has a decorative lead gutter with a crested fringe and a decorative hopper on the right. A single-storey wing is located to the right and features a 3-light casement window with moulded mullions, and a plank studded door with strap hinges. Inside, the room on the right has a chamfered frame ceiling and an ovolo moulded lintel above the fireplace, which includes a spit rack. The left room features moulded beams, raised and fielded panelling, a bolection moulded fire surround, and a dog-leg stair with turned balusters.
