Description
Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse, dated circa 1593 (as indicated by a stone above the central doorway). It is constructed of squared and coursed rubble, with some render, and features flush rusticated dressed stone quoins, stone openings, and copings. The roof is tiled with pantiles, and includes some double Roman tiles in the wings. The building is arranged in a U-shape, with a rear staircase tower and an attached dairy wing, originally a separate building.
The south front has projecting wings on each end, with a recessed entrance leading to a through passage. The wings’ gable ends have 12-pane sash windows to both ground and first floors; the ground floor windows are set beneath segmental arches, while those on the first floor have flush relieving arches. Attic windows are mullioned, with ovolo-mouldings and hoodmoulds. A pair of similar ovolo-moulded mullions with hoodmoulds are above the recessed section. The central doorway has a moulded architrave and a six-panel door, and is protected by a gabled porch on wooden piers. A datestone sits above the porch and another, more eroded datestone is above an upper window. There are two stone ridge stacks and a brick stack at the west end. The east front, staircase tower, and dairy wing feature 2-, 3-, and 4-light mullioned windows, also with ovolo mouldings.
Inside, the central passage has ovolo-moulded architraves to the doors, and the ground floor rooms have deep, chamfered beams. A large inglenook fireplace is found in the left-hand room, along with Tudor-arched inner doorways. A newel staircase is located within the tower, and the roof retains a complete through-purlin collar beam structure.
