Description
This row of three houses is located on the northeast side of Walton Street in Walton-in-Gordano. They were built in the late 18th century or early 19th century and may incorporate parts of an earlier building. The houses have undergone some later alterations. The structure is made of rubble, with the former Methodist Chapel on the left rendered and featuring a double Roman tiled roof with a louvre on the ridge. The two houses to the right have pantiled roofs and large brick stacks at the ridge and gable.
All three houses are two stories tall. The house on the right has a ground floor sash window in an exposed box and a door with a narrow hood supported by brackets. It also features a small 9-pane sash window with a wider central pane under the eaves. The central house has a ground floor 6-pane sash window with a wider central pane in an exposed box, a door with a similar hood, and a similar sash under the eaves. There is a straight joint to the left that rises to the remains of a timber member, which may indicate the position of a former large door.
The former Chapel to the left has a door with decorative strap hinges from the 19th century and a limestone modillion cornice on curved stone brackets. It also features a tall, round-headed multi-pane window to the left with splayed glazing bars. The rear of the first house has a ground floor sash window with a wider central pane and a sash under the eaves, along with a 20th-century lean-to to the left that includes a door. The central house has a door with a timber lintel to the left and similar sash windows on both the ground and first floors. The former Chapel has a lean-to with a hipped roof and a brick dormer above a similar round-headed window. There is a timber member at the first floor level beneath the ridge stack to the rear right, corresponding to the position of the timber member at the front. The interiors have not been inspected.
