Description

The Well House is a detached house dating to the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The exterior is rendered, with a pantile roof and restored rubble and brick stacks. It has two storeys and originally four bays. The windows are mostly 2- and 3-light casement windows from the 20th century. A 20th-century door is set within a projecting porch positioned off-centre to the right. The east gable end features two casement windows, with the upper floor window being 3-light; both have ovolo moulded surrounds.

Inside, the house originally featured a cross-passage plan, with a hall and inner room to the left, and a service area to the right, separated by a plank and muntin screen. The interior contains wide chamfered beams with coarsely cut stops. A rear plank door has strap hinges with fleur-de-lys ends. There is a winder stair and a panelled door with strap hinges. The former hall on the left has a large ashlar fireplace with ogee and hollow moulded surrounds, a wide lintel, and a coved mantelshelf. The rear room on the first floor features a heavily moulded cornice to the fireplace.
