Description
The Stable Flats and Gate House, located 30 meters southwest of Waterston House in Puddletown, are a range of former farm buildings or cottages likely dating from the 18th century. These structures were modified in the early 20th century to create two flats and a gate house. The lower parts of the walls are constructed from flint and stone, featuring some brick banding, while the upper sections are made of brick. The roofs are tiled, with the gate house section having stone eaves courses.
There are two brick stacks, one at the left end and another at the junction of the flats and gate house on the right end, which has recessed panelling and some stone banding. The buildings are one storey with attics. The flats feature a ledged door and on the ground floor, there are two casement windows with cast iron glazing and three with glazing bars. The attic includes four gabled dormers, which are weatherboarded in the gables and have casements with cast iron glazing. At the right end, there is a single-storey lean-to extension at the front.
The gate house, situated to the right of the flats, features four-centred archways, with the outer archway adorned with ornamental iron gates. Above the arch, there is a brick gable that includes a stone mullioned window with lead lights.
