Description
Tythe Barn is a barn that has been converted into a house, dating back to around 1600. It features rubble stone walls with ashlar dressings, and its roof is partly stone slated and partly tiled, with stone eaves courses and coped gables that have gabled apex stones. A 20th-century brick stack is located at the rear. Originally a single-storey structure, an intermediate floor has been added.
On the main (north) front, there is a slightly projecting gabled cart-porch that has a string course at the eaves level and a moulded stone opening, which now contains 20th-century ledged doors with a fanlight. Two slit windows remain intact. To the left of the cart entrance, there is a 20th-century oak ledged door and two 20th-century timber mullioned windows, one on each floor. To the right of the cart porch, there is a blocked doorway and a blocked high-level window. The building is seven bays long, and the roof is constructed with jointed raised crucks, featuring curved braces and two tiers of wind-bracing. The rear elevation has 20th-century doors and windows. Overall, it is considered a good conversion.
