Description
Higher Farm House is a farmhouse with origins dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, which has been altered over time. It features rubble stone walls, some of which are roughcast, and a thatched roof with stone eaves courses. The house has brick end stacks and one stack located to the right of the center. It is two storeys tall and positioned at right angles to the road. The layout likely began as a three-room and cross-passage plan. A 20th-century porch has been added, featuring a lean-to stone slate roof and a battened door. The ground floor includes two 20th-century casement windows and a pair of French doors, all with glazing bars. The first floor has four similar casement windows. The right end section of the house projects slightly. Although the interior has been modernized, it retains two stone fireplaces from the late 16th or early 17th century: one in the center room with a chamfered surround, and another in the right end room with a moulded surround. This right end room also features two stone corbels above the fireplace that originally supported ceiling beams.
