Description

The Pound House is a detached house, likely dating to the 17th century, although no original features of that period are visible. It has rubble stone walls and a thatched roof, with brick end stacks and one stack to the right of the front door. It is two storeys high and follows a three-room and cross-passage plan. A 20th-century open timber gabled porch stands at the front. A ledged door with a small glass panel provides access, alongside a second ledged door at the right-hand end of the facade. On the ground floor are two casement windows with horizontal glazing bars. These, and the original door opening, retain stop-chamfered timber lintels. The first floor has four casement windows, each with a central glazing bar, along with some remains of lead lights. A blocked opening to the right of the door may be the remnant of a projecting bread oven. Internally, some exposed ceiling beams remain, as do original fireplaces which have been partially blocked up.
