Description
No. 53 St Thomas Street is a pair of houses with a shop, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The building is rendered and has a slate roof, rising to three storeys and an attic, with four windows. There are two hipped dormers; one features a four-pane sash window, while the other has a two-light casement. These are positioned above twelve-pane sashes set in reveals on stone sill bands. The ground floor is channelled and includes a wide late 20th-century shop front. To the right, there is a modified six-panel door, which has been shortened at the bottom rail, located beneath a transom light. The building has a slight plinth, a moulded cornice, a small blocking course, and a coped parapet. The stack is located on the left side. Inside the first-floor windows, shutters remain. The rear of the building is rendered but retains some exposed Portland stonework, along with four-pane sashes, two-light casements, and a hipped dormer with a four-pane sash, in addition to a low gabled wing. The interior has not been inspected.
