Description

Chisel Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse constructed of English bond brickwork, with some flared headers. The roof is tiled, with stone-slate margins and brick stacks at the ends. The building follows a double-pile plan of two parallel ranges and presents a symmetrical facade. It is two storeys high with a three-window range. The upper floor features three, two-light casements with glazing bars, each set under a segmental brick head. The ground floor originally had sashes, but these were replaced in the 20th century with two bow windows with glazing bars, framing a central, glazed, double door. A 20th-century extension has been added to the rear. According to the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments and Ancient Buildings, Dorset volume III, page 81, number 8, the original ground floor windows were sashes.
