Description

Upbury Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the 15th century, originally designed in an open-hall form. The hall was floored over in the 16th century, with further alterations made in the 17th century. The building features rubble stone walls and a stone slate roof with a coped gable at the left end. It has one plastered stack at the left end, one brick stack at the right end, and another brick stack to the left of the door, which backs onto a cross-passage.

The house is two storeys high. The 15th-century doorway leads into the cross-passage and has a pointed arch with a flush panel oak door beneath a hoodmould. To the left of the door are two 20th-century reproduction stone mullioned windows with metal casements, and two similar windows are located to the right of the door. There are four similar windows on the first floor. Also to the left of the door is the original 15th-century hall window, now blocked, which has two lights, is mullioned and transomed, square-headed, and features a trefoiled light. Next to this, the upper part of the solar windows displays similar detailing.

At the right end of the house, there is a later extension at a lower level, constructed of rubble stone with a slate roof, which is set back from the main frontage. A lean-to extension is located at the front of this, covered by a catslide roof. The interior is not accessible, but according to the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, the inserted floor over the hall features intersecting moulded ceiling beams and a collar-beam roof with curved braces.
