Description

Burngate Farm House is likely of 16th century origin, though it has undergone considerable alteration. The walls are a mix of stone, brick, and plastered areas, with tiled roofs and brick stacks. The building comprises two separate wings set at right angles, enclosing the end of a barn and linked by a porch in the internal angle. The north wing possibly started as a farm building attached to the barn and may be the earlier element.

The south (courtyard) elevation includes an arched doorway, now partially blocked to accommodate a window. It features a stone mullioned window with lead lights on both ground and first floors, constructed from reused materials. The north elevation has a blocked doorway, two stone mullioned windows (again from reused material), and a large blocked opening connecting to the barn. A single gabled half-dormer with casements is also present. A deep chamfered ceiling beam exists on the ground floor, although it may have been reset.

The south wing may be of early origin but was largely remodelled in the 19th century. The porch has brick and stone walls incorporating large, re-used worked stones, and a tiled roof, with an arched doorway and partly glazed door. Above the doorway is a horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars. The ground floor of the main wing has a casement window with a "Gothic" head, while the first floor has a horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars. The attic has a dormer with horizontally sliding sashes and glazing bars.

A projecting block west of this wing, likely a later addition, has twin gables facing the road. Its south elevation contains casement windows with glazing bars and "Gothic" heads on the ground floor, and a horizontally sliding sash window on the first floor. A casement window is present on the west elevation at both ground and first floor levels.

A single-storey outbuilding is attached to the east side of the north wing, built of brick and stone with a tiled roof, and featuring a ledged door and casement window. Beyond this is a further outbuilding, now converted into a cottage, with brick walls, tiled roof, and brick stack. It has modern doors and windows.
