Description
Lazerton Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with 19th-century additions located in Stourpaine. The main part of the building is constructed of ashlar stone with rubble side walls, while the western ranges are made of rubble, flint, and brick. The main range features a slated roof with stone copings and kneelers, along with end brick stacks. The original layout likely consisted of two rooms divided by a central cross-passage, with a rear stair tower.
The main facade is symmetrical and has two storeys, with five bays on the ground floor and three bays on the upper floor. The ground floor includes four-light, hollow chamfered stone-mullioned windows with returned labels, although the leftmost window is blocked. Above, there are two similar four-light windows flanking a central two-light window that has a stone apron. The windows are fitted with wrought-iron casements and leaded lights. A central flat wooden porch supported by stone Ionic columns, likely a 18th-century addition, leads to a four-panel door. The rear ranges mainly feature 20th-century metal casements.
Inside, various rooms display panelled dadoes and moulded cornices, along with some original doorways and fireplaces. The stair tower retains an original newel post with inserted 18th-century stairs that have turned balusters and a moulded handrail. The main fireplaces are positioned on the western lateral wall, which is an unusual location in relation to the gable stacks.
