Description
The water tower on Bridport Road was built in 1880 and is an octagonal structure made of brick. Each side features a tall narrow arch that extends almost to the parapet level. The tower has decorative string courses at the base, at the level where the arches spring, and at the top of the parapet. There are ornamental keystones above the arches and a mock machicolated parapet. Inside, there is an octagonal central staircase tower made of red brick that houses the central supply pipe. At the top, there is a round metal water tank with an octagonal cover, which is secured by railings from the parapet. The tower is still in use today.
