Description

Stable Court, located approximately 175 meters south-east of Clayesmore School, was built around 1880 by Alfred Waterhouse for Lord Wolverton. Originally a stable court, it now serves as school laboratories and dormitories. The building is constructed of brick, with some timber-framing present in the clock tower, and features tiled roofs with asymmetrically placed brick stacks. It presents a picturesque, High Victorian style with a single storey and attics, showcasing irregular fenestration. The windows include various casements with glazing bars, some of which are set under segmental brick heads.

The entrance archway is topped by a clock tower, which features a tourelle on the left and a buttress with 'tumbled-in' brickwork on the right. The clock tower has a pyramidal roof with a pedimented, projecting clock and a pointed arch with two orders. To the right of the main range is a projecting chimney that balances the overall composition, although its top stage is missing. A projecting gable with patterned brickwork is located on the left. Attached at right angles is the former fire-station building.
