Description

Muston Manor is a detached house dating from the late 17th century, with an 18th-century porch and an addition on the left. It features Flemish bond brickwork, with the earlier sections having burnt headers, and a flint plinth. The roof is half-hipped and thatched, with two brick stacks positioned partway along the ridge. The house is one and a half storeys tall and has a five-window range, with the central three bays slightly projecting forward. The windows are 19th and 20th-century casements with glazing bars, and those on the ground floor are set under segmental brick heads.

The central two-storey porch, likely inspired by the nearby Anderson Manor, has a round brick arch with brick imposts and a stone keystone. The upper floor features a possibly reset single-light stone window with an elliptical head, and there is a plank door. On the east gable and rear wall, some windows have heavy, pegged timber surrounds, with a mix of fixed glazing and wrought-iron casements containing leaded-lights. There are also some blocked openings at the rear.

Inside, the features are of very high quality for a small dwelling. Many rooms have fielded panelling with a moulded dado rail. The west room includes a moulded cornice with egg and dart enrichment and an angle fireplace with a moulded surround and heavy keystone. The main room has a large open fireplace with a chamfered bressummer and continuous jambs, while the kitchen has a chamfered stone fireplace with continuous jambs. The east room upstairs features a fireplace with a bolection-moulded surround, and two other rooms have coved and segmental plastered ceilings.
