Description

South Admiston Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dated 1845. It features dressed limestone walls with ashlar dressings and clay tile roofs with cresting. The building has stone stacks at the north gable and at the junction of the ridges. It is two storeys high with attics.

The southwest elevation has three windows for the house and one window for the low battlemented former kitchen and bakery at the north end. The fenestration is irregular, with all windows having labels above them. On the ground floor, there is a three-light window, a porch, and a canted bay on the front gable consisting of one, two, and one lights with a high cross-transom and a battlemented parapet. The first floor features two-light, one-light, and two-light windows, with a single light window above in the gable. All windows are cast-iron casements with rectangular glazing bars.

The porch is located in the angle, with ashlar moulded stone jambs and a four-centred head, and it has a plank and muntin door that is studded, dating from the 19th century. The original datestone from 1845 is located above, along with an armorial and an embattled parapet. The embattled north section of the building is 1½ storeys high and has a two-light window on the ground floor and a single light window above. The low-pitched roof is concealed behind the embattled facade. The rear range of 1½ storeys formerly contained a bakehouse and a well.
