Description
The Methodist Church, dated 1878, was designed by Thomas Farrell. It features rock-faced walls with ashlar stone quoins, stone gable copings, and moulded kneelers. The roof is covered with clay tiles and has tile cresting. The building is in an L-plan layout with its west gable facing the street and consists of one storey. The gable end has three lancet windows, which are shafted with carved capitals and roll-moulds above. Above these windows is a traceried Jewish Star within a circle. Other walls have plain lancets, either single or grouped. There is a porch at the angle of the building, which includes a pointed-arch entrance and a plank door with strap hinges from the 19th century, topped by a flat parapet. The lancet windows are adorned with diagonal and rectangular leaded lights. A foundation stone located under the west window reads: "This stone was laid by Thomas Farrell of Sherborne, Architect and Builder," and below it, "This stone was laid by E Whelpton Esq. of London, August 14, 1878."
