Description
The pillbox below Redend Point is a Grade II listed structure made of corrugated iron and shuttered concrete. It is located on the beach at the foot of the cliff and, although complete, has become detached from its foundation. The pillbox has a circular plan with a diameter of 1.8 meters and features a ribbed exterior due to the use of corrugated iron for moulding the shuttered concrete. Its name comes from the use of 'Armco', which refers to the corrugated iron sheets that formed the inner and outer walls, while flat sheets were used for the roof. There are three embrasures located on the north, north-west, and north-east sides, along with a small door port positioned high in the rear (south) wall. The pillbox is set on a deep, square concrete plinth that has been undermined by the sea, causing the entire structure to tilt forward on its north-east side.
