Description

Bridge Cottage is a detached house, likely originally three cottages, dating from the 17th century, with a 18th-century rear wing. It features plastered cob walls and a hipped thatched roof, with one brick chimney stack at the left end and another to the right of the center. The building has one storey and an attic.

At the left end, there is a former cart shed with a ledged door. The right end includes a later outbuilding that has been incorporated into the house. The added rear wing is single-storey with a tiled roof and has a brick buttress on the front wall. A 20th-century oak door is set in an open thatched porch.

The ground floor has seven casement windows with cast iron lights, some of which are in former door openings. The attic features six half-dormers, four with cast iron lights, one with lead lights, and one with timber glazing bars.

Inside, the left end ground floor room contains a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a bread oven, along with some chamfered ceiling beams. The center room has a similar fireplace, with a curing chamber positioned at a high level and also features chamfered ceiling beams. The first floor over the front of this room has been removed to create a gallery, which is supported by roughly shaped splat balusters. There are also roughly shaped balusters on the landing at the top of the stairs. Most of the original roof trusses are still intact.
