Description
Hollowbank House is a detached house set in grounds, formerly a rectory, built in the early 19th century for Admiral Digby. The house features rough render and a slate roof, showcasing a handsome Regency style with a low pitched roof that drops into a central flat. It has a two-room depth and an L-plan entrance hall leading to a staircase on the left side, with a small service wing at the back left.
The house is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window front, featuring original 16-pane sash windows that have been painted over a blank panel above a square flat-roofed porch. This porch includes a cornice and blocking course, with a flight of steps leading to a pair of part-glazed panelled doors. Inside, there is an inner panelled door with a fanlight.
On the right side of the return elevation, there are three 16-pane sashes above two others, while the left side has a large 24-pane staircase sash with a small single light, followed by the service wing which has a 16-pane window above a two-light casement and a panelled door under lean-to roofs. The back of the house features two 16-pane sashes above one, and there is a low brick addition with a hipped roof covering the stair to a small basement. The house has deep eaves supported by wide-spaced brackets and three brick stacks. The ground floor windows are larger than those above. The interior has not been inspected but is believed to retain the original dog-leg stair with a wreathed handrail and decorative spandrels.
