Description

The barn at Tomson Farm, located 25 meters west of the farmhouse, dates back to the early 17th century and was rebuilt or extended to the north in the 19th century. The original section features rubble stone walls and a half-hipped tiled roof with stone eaves courses. The later section has timber-framed walls resting on a stone base. The two southern bays, which are from the 17th century, have raised cruck trusses with braced collars. The northern section, consisting of five bays and featuring a cart entrance, has tie-and collar-beam trusses. On the west side, there is a projecting gabled dovecote that includes an original blocked low four-centred arched doorway. There are later inserted doors, one of which replaces a stone mullioned window. Additionally, there is a stone mullioned window on the first floor that is louvred, and a lower brick extension at the south end with a half-hipped tiled roof.
