Description

The garden walls immediately east of Anderson Manor, including two garden houses, date from the 17th century and were partly rebuilt around 1912. The south side features a low brick wall divided into twelve bays by octagonal piers with moulded stone caps. One bay is open, leading to six curved brick steps that ascend to the garden. In the southeast corner, there is a garden house with brick walls and stone dressings, topped with a pyramidal stone slate roof that has a ball finial at the apex. It has a segmental pointed doorway with a dropped keystone and alternately projecting voussoirs, rising from curved springers, and a two-light stone mullioned window on each side wall. Inside, there is a pyramidal plaster ceiling. On the east side of the garden, there is a plain brick wall with an opening that features square gatepiers with stone caps and ball finials, along with simple wrought iron gates that have scrollwork overthrows. A brick dividing wall runs across the garden from east to west. On the north side, there is a higher plain brick wall with a garden house in the center, which has brick walls with a dentil cornice and a pyramidal stone slate roof with a ball finial at the apex. This garden house has three brick arched openings at the entrance and a two-light stone mullioned window with lead lights in each side wall.
