Description
The drinking trough and conduit head, built in 1844, is a combined structure made of coursed and squared Greensand blocks, ashlar, and cast-iron fittings. It is positioned parallel to the road and has a dogleg plan, oriented from northwest to southeast.
The northwest section features a low masonry wall topped with stone capping, which contains a niche with chamfered jambs and a four-centred arched lintel inscribed with the year '1844'. Inside the niche is a cast-iron water spout shaped like a lion’s head, and below it is a canted cast-iron trough with roll mouldings. The southeast section of the structure is slightly taller and has a round-arched recess that holds a pipe; however, the spout is missing, and below this recess is a projecting funnel made of brick or tile.
