Description
This pair of monuments, located in the churchyard against the west wall of the south transept of the Church of St Odulphus, dates from the 18th century and is made of slate. The headstone features a round top with a cherub's head and wings, commemorating Grace Smith, who died at the age of 3 years and 6 months in 1742/3. The rectangular ledger stone has an incised border and a central panel that includes a carved cherub with wings, an hourglass, crossed bones, a skull, and two skeletons holding a scythe and hourglass, with cherubs at the corners. The central panel also contains valedictory verses, while the inscription around the border is dedicated to Peter Seage, who passed away in 1743.
