Description

Sunny Corner House stands on a river quay, dating to the 1830s. The house is constructed of stone rubble with brick window and doorway arches, painted at the back and sides. It has a pyramidal hipped slate roof with deep eaves and a brick stack on the south side.

The house follows a square, double-depth plan. The two principal front rooms on the east front and the central entrance have been combined into one room. Service rooms are located at the rear, with a kitchen to the southwest and an outshut on the side. A 20th-century porch has been added to the north side, alongside a side entrance.

The east front is symmetrical, with three bays. The windows have cambered brick arches and slate sills, now with 20th-century replacement frames. A blocked central doorway features a semi-circular brick arch above which is a large, plastered roundel with a moulded architrave. An outshut is located on the south return, and a 20th-century porch is on the north side with a round-arched inner doorway and a 19th-century panelled door. At the rear (west), a wide ground floor window and a first-floor window on the right have cambered brick arches, while a window to the left on the first floor has a lintel.

The interior retains original joinery, including panelled doors, simple fireplaces, and a staircase with stick balusters, a moulded string, and handrail.

The quay is constructed of vertically bedded slate, with the west end built of large dressed granite blocks. A stone garden area wall, built in front of and to the side of the house, borders the quay.

The house was likely built in connection with navigation on the Truro River and the port of Truro.
