The Lodge 100 Metres To East Of Park Villa

The Lodge, located 100 meters east of Park Villa, is a Grade II listed building dating from around the mid-19th century, likely constructed around 1842, contemporaneously with Park Villa. This former lodge, now a private house, is built of stone rubble with granite quoins and features a slate roof with gable ends and deep overhanging eaves on the front and left-hand side gable ends.

The building has a main range that consists of a two-room, double-depth plan, with the entrance located in the right-hand side elevation, forming a cross wing to a one-room range that is probably slightly later and set back on the left, creating an overall 'L' shaped plan. The Lodge is designed in a picturesque Gothic style and stands two storeys high, with asymmetrical front and side elevations.

It features 19th-century casements set in dressed stone arches, many of which retain their original honeycombe leaded lights, some adorned with coloured glass. The entrance in the cross wing on the left is highlighted by a 19th-century gabled wooden porch, which has a two-centred arch doorway and a steeply pitched slate roof with shaped bargeboards, leading to a pointed plank door.

On the first floor to the right, there is a two-light, two-centred casement with Y-tracery. The projecting gabled wing on the right includes a three-light casement on the ground floor and a three-light, two-centred arch window with intersecting tracery on the first floor. The right-hand side elevation features a 19th-century timber porch similar to that on the front, along with a three-light, two-centred arch window with intersecting tracery. The left-hand side elevation has a two-light, two-centred arch window with Y-tracery.

Although the interior has not been inspected, the building retains much of its 19th-century fenestration, which is particularly significant on all elevations.
