Description
The Gew is a building located on the south side of Street-an-Pol, likely dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of uncoursed stone rubble, with the second floor and east facade covered in cement render. The building stands three storeys high and features three windows, which are mostly sash windows with glazing bars in exposed cases. The central entrance consists of a fielded panel door set in a moulded doorcase, while to the left is an early 19th-century shop window with flat pilasters and a cornice. The east elevation has five windows overall, some of which are blocked. The building has moulded eaves and a slurried-slate hipped roof. At the rear, there are two wings that form an E-shaped plan. A granite datestone inscribed "NRG 1713" is incorporated into the corner of the building, although it is not in its original position. The Gew is part of a group with Nos 1 to 5, which are consecutive.
