Description
Mevagissey Museum, located on The Quay in Mevagissey, is an 18th-century building, reportedly constructed in 1745 as part of a shipbuilding yard. The building is situated against a rock face and adjoins later structures. It has a boarded front and a single-pitched roof with shaped brackets to the eaves. It is two storeys high and four bays wide, with seven alternately larger and smaller windows on the first floor, all containing glazing bars. The ground floor is largely concealed by a modern garage. Inside, the roof is supported by three timber posts or masts, and the upper storey is supported by stone piers featuring small niches for lamps. The museum contains what is believed to be the original hand-turned wheel lathe.
