Description
This former smithy, dating from the early 19th century, is located on Charlestown Road in Charlestown, as shown on the 1843 tithe map. The building features rubble walls and a dry Delabole slate roof, with a small L-shaped plan that includes a stable for shoeing and wheel-making at the front and a larger forge room behind. It is a single-storey structure with a 1:2-window range, positioned on either side of an inner angle. The windows are 16-pane, 2-light casements, and there are doorways to the right of each range with ledged doors. The front gable end on the left has a small gable window and a Victorian letterbox set into the wall. The interior retains its original roof structure. This building is part of an important group in the context of the former fishing and china clay port.
