Description

Churchtown Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 17th century and was remodeled with additions in the mid to late 18th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of painted granite rubble and features a hipped slate roof with ridge and hip tiles. There is a stack with a rendered shaft on the right side, while the stack on the left side has been truncated.

The layout consists of a two-room plan, with a larger room on the left and a smaller room on the right, each heated by a stack at the end. The entrance is located off-centre to the right. In the 18th century, a single-storey outshut with a loft was added to the rear of the left room. Additionally, a two-storey wing with a one-room plan was added to the rear of the right room, which includes a single-storey outshut at the right end. In the 20th century, the partition walls between the two front rooms were removed.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical three-window front. Most windows are 20th-century casements, except for a central 12-pane light on the first floor. The central entrance is an 18th-century three-panelled door with a gabled hood supported by cast iron piers and a scalloped valance. Attached to the right is a single-storey outshut with a 20th-century window at the front. The rear wing on the right side has a 20th-century porch set in the angle to the outshut, with 20th-century windows on both the ground and first floors, and a blind gable end. The left end features an external stack truncated at the eaves level, with a 4-pane light at ground floor and a 9-pane light at first floor in the outshut to the left. At the rear, the outshut has a 4-pane light.

The interior has not been fully inspected. On the ground floor, the fireplace at the right end has granite jambs and a heavy chamfered timber lintel, with a cloam oven located to the rear left. The beams appear to be 20th-century replacements.
