Description

Lower Hendra Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse, extended in the 20th century. It is constructed of local slate rubble with granite quoins and dressings. The roof is hipped and covered in slate, with black glazed ridge tiles. The farmhouse has dressed granite stacks, with the right-hand stack rendered.

The original plan is double depth, forming two principal front rooms and a central entrance. The rear rooms were likely shallower service rooms. A two-storey, flat-roofed extension was added to the rear, to the right, in the 20th century.

The south front is symmetrical, featuring three windows. The windows and doorway are all set within dressed granite flat arches with keystones; windows have slate sills. The upper floor windows are early 20th-century four-pane sashes, while the ground floor windows are late 20th-century casements. The central doorway has a late 20th-century boarded door. A slate sundial, dated 1751 with initials C.W., a coat of arms, Roman numerals, and angels in the corner, is set into the front wall to the right of the doorway. The rear extension is a 20th-century addition of rendered walls and a flat roof.

The interior is not accessible.
