Description
Spray Cottage is a cottage dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed of slate rubble with brick window arches and has an asbestos slate roof with gabled ends. The brick stacks at the gable ends have been rebuilt. The cottage has a double depth plan, but the interior was not inspected, so the internal arrangement is unclear. There are two front rooms with a central entrance between them. The left front room is wider but has a small window, suggesting it may be a service room. The back rooms are likely also service rooms, but the rear left room is now part of the adjoining cottage to the left.
The exterior features two storeys and an asymmetrical three-window front. The 19th-century windows are two-light casements with small panes and slate sills. The ground floor left window is similar but consists of two lights, and all ground floor windows have flat brick arches. The doorway is located to the right of centre and features a divided plank door with a simple 20th-century wooden gabled porch. The rear elevation includes later 19th-century sashes on the right and a 20th-century casement and porch on the left. The interior was inaccessible during the survey in 1987.
