Description

Trewoofe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 17th century, with remodels around 1740 and extensions in the 18th and early to mid-19th centuries. It is constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings, including some reused 17th-century chamfered masonry. The roofs are made of grouted scantle slate with gable ends, except for the dairy, which has a hipped end. Dressed granite stacks are located over the gable ends.

The farmhouse has an irregular plan, originally featuring a two-room layout at the front (now one room) and likely a wide one-room plan wing from the 18th century that extends at right angles behind the left-hand room. An axial passage leads to the stair at the front, while a 20th-century outshut is located behind the right-hand room. The dairy is attached to the rear right-hand corner of the rear wing, and a flower-bunching room is adjacent to the rear left-hand corner of the dairy. The original house includes an oven in a fireplace that was rebuilt in the 18th century in the left-hand room, and a parlour fireplace from the 17th century in the right-hand room.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical three-window south front with an approximately central doorway. The eaves were heightened in the early 19th century, and the openings were likely remodeled around the same time. The ground floor openings incorporate 17th-century chamfered masonry. The doorway has chamfered jambs and a lintel, with the right-hand jamb also showing a chamfer on its right side, possibly indicating a former fireplace lintel that adjoined a window bay. The door is a four-panel design, and there are 20th-century 16-pane horned sash windows. The left-hand wall of the rear wing has a wide ground floor window opening with a slightly cambered granite arch and projecting keystones.

Inside, there are large granite fireplaces, including a 17th-century hollow-chamfered parlour fireplace, an 18th-century remodeled fireplace in the left-hand room with a domed oven and chamfered lintel, and a large fireplace of uncertain date in the rear wing. Other interior features include a two-panel door and a relocated 18th-century arch supported on consoles.
