Description
The Limekiln is an 18th-century structure made of slatestone rubble, featuring a rectangular plan and standing about 15 feet high with a double cell. It has battered walls, and the west front includes a central round-arched opening that leads to a vaulted chamber. There are half-arches to the rear right and left, supported by slatestone relieving arches, which cover conical kilns. The front entrance arch is partially hidden by corrugated iron. Both the left and right sides have round-arched access openings that are splayed inwards, providing access to the stoking hole for the kiln. Attached to the right is a wall that encloses an additional bay with a wide front opening, which is roofless. This limekiln is an unusually complete example of its type.
