Description
This is an early to mid-17th century farmhouse, extended in the late 17th century and remodelled around 1800, with later additions and alterations. It is constructed of rendered slate-stone with slate roofs. The plan is based on a double-depth layout. The front of the house has two storeys and three windows, with 16-paned glazing bar sash windows directly below the eaves, the left-hand windows being horned. The ground floor features early 20th century French windows on either side of a central 20th century panelled door. Integral end stacks have red brick shafts; the left-hand shaft is from the 19th century and the right-hand from the 20th. A single-storey lean-to is attached to the left gable end. The rear range contains a central 20-paned, horned sash window with Gothic glazing, which illuminates the staircase. Inside, a pilastered, segmental headed archway leads from the right-hand front room to the rear range, with a similar archway in the hall of the rear range. There is an early 19th century staircase with stick balusters and a circular bottom newel. The front range has a collar truss roof in six bays, with notched collars. The rear range has a similar roof with lapped joints.
