Description
The Fowey Consols Engine House, located approximately 400 yards southwest of Pelean Farmhouse, is a 19th-century structure associated with the Fowey Consols tin mine. This building housed "Austin's" engine, known for being the most efficient Cornish engine, which led to its widespread adoption beyond Cornwall. The engine house features rubble walls with granite quoins and flat-headed openings that have timber lintels. All four walls are still standing, with a gable head at the end wall, although the building is now roofless and partly covered in ivy. It occupies a prominent position on high ground.
