Description

Elmsleigh and Jasmin Cottage are two adjoining houses, now combined into a single dwelling. The left-hand section, likely dating from the 17th century (Elmsleigh), appears to have been substantially rebuilt alongside an 18th-century house (Jasmin Cottage) on the right. The construction is of killas rubble with rendered cob, topped with an asbestos slate roof on the left and steep, grouted scantle slates with brick chimney stacks to the gable ends of the house on the right. Cast-iron gutters are also present. The original plan likely involved a three-room layout with a through passage, but the structure was significantly altered in the 18th century and again in the 20th century, creating two larger ground-floor rooms. The front facade is approximately four windows wide, with an irregular two-window arrangement on the left and a nearly symmetrical two-window layout on the right, featuring a centrally positioned old four-panel door and original four-pane horned sash windows. A lateral stack, the front doorway, and the house on the right project forward at the front. While no early features were visible during inspection of the interior, the front doorway of the original through passage is slightly right of the middle and adjoins a truncated lateral stack to its left.
