Description
The Carthew tomb, located approximately 50 meters northeast of the east end of the Church of St Keyne, consists of two adjoining chest tombs. One tomb commemorates John Carthew, who died in 1795 at the age of 48, his wife Elizabeth, who died in 1822 at the age of 65, and others. The second tomb commemorates their son John, who died in 1845 or 1846 at the age of 60, and his wife Ellen, who died in 1870 at the age of 84, along with others. Both tombs are rectangular in shape and feature granite monolithic sides with fielded panels, tall pilaster panels at the ends of the long sides, and inscribed slate lids.
