Description
This is a mid-19th century bank barn located south west of Trethill House. It is constructed from slatestone rubble and features a hipped slate roof, with some areas repaired using corrugated asbestos. The barn has a lower level accessed through doors at the front, while the upper level has two loading doors at the front and corresponding doors at the rear. Although it is referred to as a bank barn, it is not built directly into the bank; instead, the rear doors are reached by bridges over a ditch, with an additional doorway to the lower level at the back.
The front of the barn showcases two wide upper loading doors with pitched hoods and stone segmental heads, along with small windows with segmental heads on either side—one is blind on the right and the other has wooden louvres on the left. The ground floor features a pair of central doors, with two additional doors on both the right and left, all having segmental heads, and some are partially closed in with rubble. The left end of the barn includes an owl hole, while the right end has two low window openings.
Attached to the left side at the rear is a single-storey rubble shed with a corrugated asbestos roof. This shed has two doors that correspond to those at the front, accessed by bridges over the ditch, although the door on the right is blocked and the bridge has been removed. At the lower level of the shed, there is a central door and three windows—two on the right and one on the left. Inside, the barn features a roof with ten bays supported by principal rafters, tie-beams, upper collars, and queen posts.
