Description
Higher Trevinnick Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with dressed stone segmental arches over the ground floor openings. The right-hand gable end has been partly rebuilt using concrete blocks. The roof is steeply pitched, covered with cement-washed scantle slate, and features gable ends, with a catslide roof extending over a rear outshut.
The building has a two-room layout with a through passage, which probably originally included a hall and kitchen on the left side. In the mid-19th century, it was extended to the rear with a lean-to outshut that contains a stair, a kitchen on the rear right, and a dairy on the rear left.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. The ground floor features two sashes with their glazing bars removed, set beneath dressed stone segmental arches. There is a central plank door from the 20th century with a fanlight above. The first floor has two sashes flanking a central window from the 20th century. The left-hand gable end has a blocked ground floor window opening next to the projecting chimney stack, while the right-hand gable end has been partly rebuilt and includes a small projection on the right side of the outshut extension.
Inside, the partitions flanking the passage are retained, and there is a mid-18th century moulded plaster cornice above the passage. The front rooms contain 19th and 20th century chimney pieces, and there is a 19th century softwood stair with stick balusters. Several 18th century two-panel doors with raised and fielded panels are present. The roof structure, dating from the late 18th century, consists of seven bays with roughly cut slight trusses, which have collars that are lapped, pegged, and bolted onto the face of the principals.
