Description
This is a mid-18th century farmhouse, later used as a house, with additions and alterations in the early 19th century. It is constructed from roughly coursed slate-stone rubble with a slate roof. The original 18th-century house was extended to the right, and a barn was attached to the left. The 18th-century section has a 6-panel door with glazed top panels within a moulded wooden surround, alongside 18th-century casement windows with L-hinges, and a 20th-century casement. An external brick stack is located on the left-hand side, now incorporated into the barn. The 19th-century addition features 16-paned sash windows on both floors with slate-hanging in between. It also has integral brick end stacks. A 2-storey lean-to project from the rear, connecting to the 18th-century section. A parallel gabled range, slate-hung on the first floor, extends to the rear, with another lean-to against the back wall of the main house. The barn is buttressed in three bays and has some rendered concrete rebuilding to the front. Inside the house, the rooms to the left have exposed joists and an open fireplace with a clay oven, formerly in the external end stack. A cast-iron range manufactured by J Hoskin of Launceston is located within the back-wall fireplace. The roof structure of the 18th-century portion features an 18th-century collar truss. The barn incorporates elements of an earlier building, with traces of a former roof pitch visible internally; the barn’s present roof is late 19th century. Note that there are two other properties in the hamlet known as Higher Larrick, which are not included in this listing. This building has group value relating to its contribution to the character of the hamlet.
